The European Commission has adopted a Communication and package implementing its No Deal Contingency Action Plan

On 19 December 2018, the European Commission adopted a Communication on implementing the Commission’s “no deal” Contingency Action Plan. The Communication discusses the impact of a no-deal scenario for citizens’ rights to stay and social security co-ordination. The Commission calls on the EU27 member states to take a number of actions to mitigate the impact of a no-deal scenario on these areas.

The Communication also sets out a package of 14 legislative proposals and secondary legislation acts, as well as other actions that the Commission is taking to prepare for a no deal Brexit scenario. The measures relate to financial services, air transport, road haulage, customs and the export of goods, and environmental climate policy. The Communication also includes proposals to ensure that the current territorial co-operation programmes for the border counties of Ireland and Northern Ireland continue.
