The Waste (Miscellaneous Amendments) (EU Exit) (No. 2) Regulations 2019 were laid before Parliament on 7 February 2019, under section 2 of the European Communities Act 1972 and section 8 of the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018.

The Regulations amend 12 sets of waste regulations relating to end-of-life vehicles, hazardous waste, controlled waste, waste batteries and accumulators, the management of waste from extractive industries, waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), restriction of hazardous substances (RoHS) and packaging waste. They address deficiencies in domestic legislation arising from the UK’s withdrawal from the EU, as well as correct out of date references, including references to EU Directives. The provisions of the Regulations that relate to Brexit are due to come into force on Exit Day,and the other provisions will come into force 21 days after the day on which they are laid. The Regulations will ensure that existing protections and regulatory frameworks are maintained and will continue to work in the same way once the UK has left the EU.
