The Waste (Miscellaneous Amendments) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019were made on 19 March 2019 and will come into force on Exit Day.

The Regulations cover UK and EU legislation relating to waste batteries and accumulators, end of waste criteria, packaging waste, end-of-life vehicle destruction certification, landfill acceptance criteria, the management of waste from extractive industries, and calculation methods for verifying recycling target compliance.

The Regulations make amendments to the Environmental Protection Act 1990, the Waste and Emissions Trading Act 2003, the Control of Pollution (Amendment) Act 1989 and several other waste-related EU Regulations and Decisions that will become retained law following Brexit. The Regulations also revoke some directly applicable EU legislation which will no longer be necessary to retain in a domestic context following Brexit, as existing UK legislation cover these. They amend references to the EU, EU institutions and EU administrative processes, converting them to UK equivalents, and update legal references to refer to relevant UK legislation.
